Auburn CityFest 2008 will have a variety of activities for citizens of all ages to enjoy. Our Children’s Imagination Station will feature activities geared towards children, young and old, while other areas of the park will have attractions for various ages. Below are the times and detailed information for all of our 2008 activities.

Aubie, Miss Auburn University and various Auburn University Sports teams will be present throughout the day from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.


Bama Air Dogs

For the last decade, Gary Shockley and the Bama Air Dogs from Ashville, Ala. have been performing their High Flying Disc Dog Shows for many fans including Atlanta Falcons Football and Birmingham Barons Baseball. Gary Shockley and his Bama Air Dogs are two time winning National Canine Disc Champions and the United States Disc Dog National Champions.

Crowds will love these aerial acrobatic, disc catching dare dogs! They will sure keep audiences on their feet while soaring into their hearts. Shockley and his Air Dogs will be performing in the Children’s Imagination Station at 9 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Don’t miss this fun-filled event filled with barks and laughs.


Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show

The Auburn CityFest committee is pleased to present The International Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show! This show features world champion, Lee LeCaptain, with his crew of other world class lumberjacks as seen on ESPN. LeCaptain and his lumberjacks have performed at various festivals both nationally and internationally. The Paul Bunyan Lumberjack show is currently in its 33rd year of performing making appearances in 49 states, Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan, Africa, New Zealand and Bermuda.

The lumberjacks will be performing in the Children’s Imagination Station at the following times: 9:30 a.m., Noon and 2:30 p.m. The three man show includes various chopping events, crosscut sawing, axe throwing, hot saw competition and chainsaw racing. During the show, audiences are given the opportunity to brush up on their timber history knowledge. Don’t miss this family fun show filled with laughter, outstanding skill and strength at this year’s event!

Story Maker

The Auburn CityFest committee is proud to welcome Savannah entertainer Sean Driscoll, better known as the Storymaker, to this year’s festival. Driscoll has always been a hit at CityFest! He entertains audiences with his storytelling, acting and musical talents. He has performed at many festivals, schools and theatres all over the country. His show is original and highly entertaining. This year’s show is themed "The Circus". Driscoll will be performing in the Children’s Imagination Station during the following times: 10:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. For more information about the Story Maker, please visit www.storymaker.com

Society for Creative Anachronism (Medieval Demonstration)

The local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism will be recreating different aspects of medieval life at 10:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. Reenactments will be located in the Children’s Imagination Station and include medieval dancing, game play and fencing demonstrations! All demonstrations are intended to reinforce positive, customary aspects of the medieval era such as personal honor, chivalry, valor and sportsmanship. Let the games begin!


Mutt Strut

Join your friends from the Lee County Humane Society for Mutt Strut 2008. Mutt Strut is a 5K race for people and their canine companions. The event will take place at 8 a.m. on April 26 in beautiful Kiesel Park and will kick off Auburn CityFest 2008. This year offers a special family discount of $15 per person; $5 per additional family member. All proceeds will go directly to benefit the animals of the Lee County Humane Society.

Tone Tone the Clown

Anthony Taylor, better known as Tone Tone the Clown, will be attending Auburn CityFest 2008 presented by the Opelika-Auburn News. He is a resident of Prattville, Ala. but travels all over the country making clown appearances. Taylor chose his clown identity after his late grandfather’s childhood nickname.

He is well-known for his outstanding stilt skills. He recently competed in the World Clown Association Convention in Albuquerque, N.M. and won third place! The Auburn CityFest committee is proud to welcome this world renowned stilt walking clown to this year’s event. Tone Tone will be roaming the park with plenty of balloons and smiles for the whole family. Don’t miss the talented Tone Tone the Clown as a 10-foot Uncle Sam.





Trout Fishing

Lawton’s Trout Farm from Valley Head, Ala. will be reeling in crowds at Auburn CityFest 2008, with its catch and release trout farm. Festival attendants will have the opportunity to test their fishing skills. All fishing equipment will be available for use. Come join us for this fun-filled family fishing attraction.


ArtFest Tent

The ArtFest Tent, will host activities taught by Sara Hand, Art Education Specialist, and students of Professor Chichi Lovett (Art Department). It will offer children of all ages the opportunity to participate in educational and entertaining art projects. Projects will include hand puppets, weaving, hats and paper flowers.


Children’s Art Exhibition

The Children’s Art Exhibition will include art work presented by Auburn Junior High School art students. These students have been creating artwork throughout the school year under the instruction of art educator, Betsy Logan. The Auburn Junior High School art students have been working in a multitude of media and techniques such as drawing, painting, digital media and printmaking. This exhibition is one of the highlights of CityFest, in which students share their knowledge and experience visually, while acknowledging their role in the Auburn community.

Join Operation Boot Camp for 2 energizing workouts at 11a.m. and 2p.m.! This 45 minute total-body workout is jam-packed with two cardiovascular conditioning and resistance training as well as abdominal work.
